The Mayor's Campaign

How Goose got his name:
Goose got home to the Hotel Charlotte in Groveland with the name of Taylor. I didn't like that name and since the dog didn't know the name yet decided to change it. You've seen pictures of him, quite ugly, quite grey.

I had a vision of an ad campaign, but had to name the dog Goose.

Goose whispers promises
Caught on camera,
promises being made!

Curious about town that would have a dog named Goose be Mayor?

The annual Honorary Mayor election allows a non-profit organization to put a face on the Mayor race. The candidate that turns in the most money by the Thursday before the 49er Festival (Sept 19th this year) is crowned Mayor. Bribes and Votes are one in the same, just like real life some might say! While children aren't allowed to run for mayor, dogs can. One can either donate money in exchange for favors and promises or you can get a raffle ticket for the 49er festival in exchange for your dollars—$1 = 1 raffle ticket. Winner need not be present to win. Moneys raised in the campaign are split between the Chamber of Commerce, (the program organizer) and the non profit sponsor. Goose raises money for Camp Tuolumne Trails a camp for kids with special needs.

In the first year of the Mayor race we had a blast, even make it on TV! Channel 13, CBS out of Sacramento put us in the Good day Sacramento piece. Juliesa interviewed Goose all morning! The other candidates were there too, but they were background to the Goose, a dog running for Mayor story!

A bit about Mayor Goose:
Goose has lived at the Hotel Charlotte in Groveland for over a year having been rescued from the Humane Society by Lynn & Victor. Life is fairly simple, Goose follows Lynn around where ever she goes except into the dining room and guest rooms, those adventures earn him a pretty good correction. Goose has been trained to entertain guests in the evenings and to nap in the afternoon. Goose is a fairly lazy dog and will do just about anything for a treat.

The Promises: Okay, so you want to hear a little about the campaign? This year Goose is going to Sacramento and Washington for Groveland! He will fight with all his might to get what we need up here. As mayor Goose will endorse whatever his paying constituents want, just write the letters, send a check and he will sign every single one and even pay the postage to send your pleas off the hill. We will be heard! Imagine the response we will get with our signature: Goose, Hotel Dog and Honorary Mayor of Groveland, CA.

Goose is hot for a fire hydrant on every corner and will sign a moratorium on silly dog clothes. Goose supports the Groveland Dog park and he wants doggie cookies in every store. Goose likes to get treats because you love him not because he can do stupid tricks and getting flowers once a week wouldn't be bad either.
